John P. Ellbogen Meritorious Classroom Teaching Award

DEADLINE:  January 21, 2005

Purpose:  To “reward excellence in classroom teaching at the University of Wyoming."

Eligibility:  All full-time faculty and academic professionals who teach are eligible.  The committee discourages nominations of individuals who have won this award previously.

Nominating Materials:  The nominee’s packet should include:

  • A current curriculum vitae.

  • A summary list of classes taught over the last three years (including the current semester), with class enrollments.

  •  All evaluations for these classes.  Please provide an explanation for any courses that do not have evaluations.

  • Six or fewer supporting letters from colleagues.

  • Six or fewer supporting letters from students, of which at least three should be former students.

  • If the nominee has been a recipient of the Humphrey award in the past, a letter stating this should be included.

The Faculty Senate's Faculty Development Committee will review nominations and select awardees.  In addition, the committee will invite the President of the ASUW or a designated representative to participate.  The committee requests that a department nominate no more than one individual for this award.  Departments are welcome to re-submit unsuccessful nominations from previous years, since in any single year there are often more strong nominees than awards.

The committee will consider the nominees for these awards for the CASE U.S. Professors of the Year Award, given by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.  This national award, given in each state, emphasizes excellence and innovation in undergraduate instruction.

Please send nominations, including all letters and supporting materials, to the following address:
