1. Introductions – 33 attendees including students, faculty and staff attended the first meeting of the semester.
2. Model Releases – hopefully everyone signed the Model Release forms. This gives us permission to take your picture and use it for publicity for the University and CHAP. It may show up on the website, in the newspapers, maybe even the movies! Please let me know if you absolutely DO NOT want your picture taken.
3. Service Learning - Kelly Hubbell, AHEC Coordinator, and Janelle Krueger, Pharmacy Faculty, discussed the a new 1 credit class for Service Learning. This would involve volunteer work in the community and reflective learning.
4. Freshman Orientation - Volunteers were needed for the freshman Orientation night in Health Sciences and 9 students helped direct traffic, hand out CHAP bags, push pizza, etc. Thank you to Dylan Bailey, Lori Amick, Meghan Driscoll, John Kindle, Heather Talbott, Anna Davenport, Erica Nees, Chase Stonecipher and Kate Brengle.
5. Collaboration - Katie Messer of AED and John Kindle of SHAC attended this meeting to discuss how our organizations might combine forces in volunteer community activities. We will continue to meet together at least once each month to discuss projects and recruit help from a larger pool of interested students.
6. Health Professions Dinner - The Health Professions Dinner in an activity we offer each semester. This is a chance to identify healthcare professions you’d like to hear more about and get together over a nice dinner at the Library Restaurant. Sunday, November 4th was discussed as a possible date for this dinner since it is not a home football game weekend. Some ideas offered for speakers were a Paramedic, Osteopath, and Pulmonologist. We will identify who would like to help with preparations for this and get started with the preparations.
7. Occupational Therapy Shadowing - The Ivinson Memorial
Hospital Outpatient Occupational Therapy Department has offered interested
students the opportunity to shadowing them. This would give students more
information on educational requirements, and various aspects to consider if they
plan to pursue this career path. Contact Cathy to sign the necessary paperwork
and to set up an appointment.
Next meeting is Thursday, September 20, 12noon – 1pm.
Join us for camaraderie and lively conversations over Subway sandwiches!
