CHAP MEETING MINUTE                                                                                                         2/6/08

Volunteer Opportunities:

  1. Senior Housing
    1. Grocery Delivery – need help on Mondays – contact Elise –escicl@uwyo.edu
    2. Sit-ercise – class size is between 4 and 6 right now.  Help needed to cover Tuesday and Thursday morning exercise classes, 10am-10:30am.   Contact Lori if you can help –laamick@uwyo.edu
  2. AED
    1. This pre-professional honorary club is doing its membership drive.  For more information about AED contact Chase – cstone@uwyo.edu
    2. 2/27 – blood drive – need volunteers and donors – contact Chase.
  3. FACE AIDS
    1.  Whitney Chandler discussed upcoming projects to include AIDS Awareness Week from 4/14 – 4/19.   This is a FACE AIDS project.
    2. Meetings are held every Wednesday, Ross Hall 409, at 1pm.
  4. Head Start Health Fair
    1. Will be held March 13 from 10am – 3pm at the Civic Center.  Shantelle Rust is committee chair and will be sending out a schedule for sign-up soon. 
    2. Committee members were asked to get their recipes for the cookbook to Shantelle soon.
    3. The “Mission Nutrition” lunch bags have been ordered. 
  5. Health Occupations Dinner
    1. Will be held Sunday, March 2, from 5-7pm at the New Mandarin Restaurant.
    2. Those who are lining up speakers need to contact Cathy know as soon as possible with names and addressed of speakers.
    3. The dinner is sponsored by Area Health Education Center.  It’s a good time to get more information about various health care careers and enjoy a good meal with fellow CHAPs.

 

Camp Wapiyapi:

1.      Camp Wapiyapi is a week-long recreational camp for kids with cancer and their siblings.  Aaron Smith, Director of Camp Wapiyapi, spoke to CHAP members at the meeting on 2/5/08 and encouraged folks to apply to be companions.  This can be a very rewarding as well as fun experience.  For more information go to http://www.wapyapi.org/

2.      Thanks to Chase Stonecipher for arranging to have Aaron come and talk to us.  

3.      Wapiyapi Raffle – Camp Wapiyapi volunteers are asked to take games, toys, etc to camp for the kids.  This can get costly.  Chase, a previous volunteer,  suggested doing some fund raising to purchase squirt guns, balls, costumes, etc. for the volunteers.   Her mother has donated a quilt and Katrina Romine will be doing a water color painting to be raffled.
